With the completion of the boardwalk and bird blind, our community has yet another reason to love Hotchkiss!
The newly finished boardwalk was thoughtfully designed to enhance the experience of Hotchkiss’s beautiful 30 acres of wetlands.
From afar, residents can admire the boardwalk’s outer façade, which draws inspiration from a “nest” concept. This design not only enhances the aesthetic but also helps the structure blend seamlessly into the surrounding natural landscape.
The structure also serves another purpose, functioning as a bird blind—a camouflaged shelter that allows visitors to observe birds and other wildlife up close without disturbing them.
Did you know Alberta is home to over 20 species of ducks during the breeding season? Wetlands play a crucial role in providing habitat and nourishment to these birds and hundreds of other species, including amphibians, plants, fish, insects, and even mammals! We’re proud to have such a vital ecosystem in our own backyard.
In addition to being a prime spot for bird-watching and quiet moments among nature, the boardwalk and nearby wetlands offer a stunning backdrop for photography. We’d love to see your Hotchkiss snapshots—use #Hotchkiss when sharing on social media for a chance to have your image re-posted!
